May Day Update

So the National Labor Relations Board has filed a petition on our behalf.  But what does that mean?

Really, all it means is that at least 2/3 of the teachers at Kaplan (ESB, Midtown, and East Village) have signed union cards stating that they are interested in having the Newspaper Guild represent us.

We still don't have a union yet.  In a few weeks, there will be vote, and whether or not you signed a union card, the Guild can't begin to represent us until we the teachers vote them in.

The vote is organized by the National Labor Relations Board to make sure everything is done by the book, that there is no intimidation from either side, and of course to ensure that your vote is kept private.  So if you support the union, either publicly or privately, make sure you cast your vote!

If you're on the fence, we urge you to take the time to talk to any of the teachers who are in support of the union so that you can make an informed decision.  Kaplan has distributed a lot of information, and made us sit through a lot of meetings, but as you can imagine their information supports their anti-union position.

This is our workplace, and everyone's opinion is valid.  Those in favor of the union won't hold it against you if you decide to vote it down.  All we ask is that you listen to both sides and weigh the facts before you cast your ballot.
